Last week the WSCFF assisted our friends in Olympia to file HB1909 and it’s companion SB5844 which relates to the confidentiality of workers comp records. Senators Dhingra and Kuderer are two of the Sponsors. If you recall, we endorsed BOTH of their campaigns this past summer.
On the same day, HB1913 and companion SB5849 which is presumptive disease expansion were filed. Both bills are scheduled for a hearing next week and we expect both to sail through their respective committees.

Vice-President Pethick and I will be working on educating our elected officials in Washington D.C. We travel to our nation's capital to stand in SOLIDARITY for Fire Fighters throughout the U.S. The below is one of the issues we will be working on. To be clear, we currently enjoy collective bargaining in Washington State. This is NOT because it was given to those who came before us. They fought like hell to obtain this priveledge. And we work hard to bring this to other first responders as well as to confirm it for our own.

Brothers and Sisters,
Brothers Pethick, Glorioso and I had the honor of representing Local 106, along with hundreds of other Union brothers and sisters from around the state, in Olympia on January 28-30. We were there to speak with our elected officials about ways to improve firefighter working conditions.
Fortunately, we were able to meet with newly elected Representatives Lekanoff from the 40th and Shewmake from the 42nd, as well as Representative VanWerven from the 42nd. Senator Ericksen declined to make time to meet us. Senator Ranker had just stepped down from...

Your L106 Leadership understands that each of us has a 'basket of issues' we look at when casting our votes. It may be that Faith guides many of these choices for you. It may be your concerns about the environment. What your leadership does believe is that your labor deserves a voice as well, your hours, wages and working conditions. To those ends, we have done reasearch and interviews to determine who we believe represents these interests best, be it in the North Whatcom Fire Commision, the Port of Bellingham Commission, The U.S. Senate or the Washington State Legislature.

Brothers and Sisters,
We are down to 1 month left in this 2018 General Election political season. Considering all of the challenges our Local has, this is actually a great time to make a strong showing for our candidates. We have some events during which we will show we are very relevant to our candidates' victories in November.
I challenge EVERY member of our great Local (yes, YOU) to make just one of the dates below. From BLI to Lynden, Geneva to Blaine and from Birchwood to Fairhaven, This is where the rubber meets the road for making improvements to YOUR hours, wages and working conditi...

The Blue Wave Approaches…or does it?
The 2018 Primary elections were good for Labor and they indicate that the General should be a wake up call to those who would slam the door on firefighters and other working folks. Here is a re-cap:
Maria Cantwell, Won primary handily, 55%-25%
THE IAFF HAS ENDORSED SENATOR CANTWELL... and will continue to do so as she works hard for Labor
